DOUGLAS HOMES RECIEVES THE GREEN BUILT SEAL OF APPROVAL

August, 2008Built Green Logo

Built Green is an industry driven voluntary program that promotes “green” building practices to reduce the impact that building has on the environment. Created and launched in October 2003, it is now owned and managed by the Built Green Society of Canada

Doug Musak recently completed the Built Green Training that is required to become a Built Green Certified Builder member. Douglas Homes can now build Built Green Homes.

Built Green adds value to new home construction by promoting and recognizing the use of practices and products that represent resource efficient and environmentally friendly construction. By choosing energy efficient options you will be making a choice to help protect our environment for the future as well as save you money today.

Some of the most prominent benefits of a Built Green Home are as follows:

  • Energy Efficiency: Next to a mortgage, energy costs are the most significant household expenditure. An energy efficient home offers lower energy costs.
  • Comfort: A less drafty home with improved ventilation increase your control of humidity and temperature.
  • Water Efficiency: Installing water efficient appliances can significantly reduce the amount of water a household consumes. Planting a water-wise landscape can also reduce the water demand and requires less maintenence while still adding beauty to your home.
  • Healthier Indoor Air: Built Green encourages well-sealed duct systems, combustion appliances that are sealed and/or direct vented, controlled fresh air and uses interior building materials that reduce indoor air pollution.
  • Durability and Less Maintenance: Built Green encourages the use of building materials that are more durable both inside and outside the home.
  • Global Benefits: Building a Built Green home results in some direct benefits to the owners but there are also benefits to the community and the environment in general.

The built Green program has established itself as a national industry leader and Douglas Homes is very proud to be a new member. In September 2005 the Built Green Society of Canada was presented with an Energy Efficiency Recognition Award by NRCan, OEE. It was a special award to pay tribute to organizations and individuals for their commitment and action on energy efficiency.
